Pottery Making in Sri Lanka

Ancient people were capable of producing what they want locally from raw materials. They had a vast knowledge about the technology of making pottery and clay tiles from clay mined from river valleys, making tools using iron, building furniture from wood, and dyeing and weaving text tiles. Availability of full state sponsorship contributed to the advancement of technical design skills.

Due to the foreign occupation of Sri Lanka, due attention was paid to local industries. However, it is fortunate for Sri Lankans that our artisants have been able preserve the traditional arts from generation to generation. The world’s first civilized people were members of the pottery community. Pottery industry is one of the world’s most unique creative industries. Thanks to their skills the pottery community was able progress day by day into civilization more quickly than the rest of the population.
