Udawalawe is one of the famous national parks in Sri Lanka which is situated 160 Km away from Colombo. It is an important habitat for Sri Lankan Elephant because of Udawalawe Reservoir. The rusty-spotted cat, fishing cat and Sri Lankan leopard, Sri Lankan sambar deer, Sri Lankan axis deer, Indian muntjac, Sri Lankan spotted chevrotain, wild boar and water buffalo are among other mammal species those can be seen in the park. Golden jackal, Asian palm civet, toque macaque, tufted grey langur and Indian hare also inhabit the park. The Sri Lankan sloth bear is seldom seen because of its rarity. During this day tour, you can visit Udawalawe Elephant transit home as well. It is a place where taking care of abandoned elephant calves in the park in order to rehabilitate and release back into the wild. Visitors can watch the elephant being fed but are not allowed to touch or interact with them. Opening times of this transit home are 8.45 am, 11.45 am, 2.45 pm and 5.45 pm. The duration of visiting time may depend on 15 to 30 minutes.
