Experience the spectacular hill country
Welcome to Nine Skies
Promising far-reaching hill country views, our stylishly refurbished five-bedroom tea bungalow hotel is majestically perched on a tea-fringed hill near Ella. Dating back to the colonial era, the bungalow epitomises its legacy yet indulges discerning guests with contemporary facilities and high-end personalised service – be pampered by our butlers, feast on gourmet food and dip into a garden pool with stunning views across the valley and famous Demodera Loop.

Close to Demodera’s Nine Arch Bridge
Our luxurious bungalow is located in Demodera, a village in Sri Lanka’s south eastern Hill Country noted for its spectacular viaduct, the Nine Arch Railway Bridge, and a 360-degree loop in the track. Neighbouring Demodera, is Ella, a mountain village, revered for its waterfalls, landmark walks, far-reaching views and the legendary Ramayana mythology.

Accommodation

Bask in the heady atmosphere of Sri Lanka’s tea country in one of our five bedrooms and suites, which open onto garden terraces blessed with wonderful views. All rooms are stylishly furnished and have ensuite bathrooms with tubs for soaking in after scenic strolls around the tea plantations.

The homely bungalow has three rooms types. Our magnificent Ella Rock Suite, has a private sitting room, direct garden access and is decadently spacious while our three double Demodera Bedrooms proffer private luxury in a setting redolent of days gone by. Nine Skies Bedroom is equipped with twin beds, and since this cosy room interconnects with a Demodera Bedroom, it is ideal for families.

Nine Skies Bedroom
Nine Arches is our only twin bedroom, and its pair of single beds, dressed in soft cotton duvets, is a snug retreat for sleep. Ideal for two friends travelling together or two children when their parents book an interconnecting Demodera Bedroom. The bedroom directly accesses a private furnished garden terrace and the ensuite bathroom is equipped with a rain shower and bathtub. An affordable yet luxurious room for exploring the Ella countryside

Demodara Suite
We have three Demodera Bedrooms, with views into our upcountry garden, and beyond, to the tea fields and verdant south eastern mountains. These bedrooms are furnished with a king-sized bed, a cosy sitting area, private veranda and an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub. Handpicked antique furnishings and custom-made pieces marry eclectic style with contemporary comfort.

Welimada is a warm, cosy bedroom bathed in light and is unique for its twin aspect valley-side and garden facing views. The private veranda gazes west, offering vistas of the working tea factory and Demodera Loop. Badulla, to the front of the bungalow, is private and indulgent, and opens directly onto the garden and swimming pool through a set of French windows. Tucked off the central hallway, Hali-Ela bears similarities to the Badulla Bedroom yet has the option of being connected with its neighbouring twin bedroom, Nine Arches, to make a Family Suite.

Ella Rock Suite
Our Suite promises privacy, indulgence and nostalgia, with a light-bathed open plan layout and French windows affording exotic garden views. Furnished with a king-sized bed and plush sofas in a separate sitting area, it has a private garden terrace and an ensuite bathroom with rain shower and bathtub. It’s perfect for couples but is also an ideal suite for families as the sitting room can be converted into a kids’ bedroom.

Dining

Our butlers are poised to pamper you in a home from home setting, mixing your favourite drinks for sipping in the sitting room, and serving afternoon tea and freshly cooked gourmet meals to tables inside the bungalow or out on the garden veranda.

Rates are all inclusive, so expect to tuck into a hearty breakfast, a ‘Planter’s Lunch’ – a selection of daily curries – afternoon tea and later, an a la carte dinner.
